Dear Callen,
It’s early morning Thanksgiving, but you won’t realize it for another few hours. Since you got kicked out of daycare last week it’s been a tough short week. Luckily today your Grammy had the day off and volunteered to watch you while I was at work. You were actually a very behaved little dude, which I appreciate.
Today is Thanksgiving, and we should take time to reflect on the things we are grateful for. Your dad is typically a negative guy who is more likely to bitch about what he doesn’t have than be grateful for what he does.
We do have a lot of things to be thankful for. We have a roof over our heads. We have Tinsely, the world’s best dog. We have our health. We have our family (mostly). Daddy has a good job; not the best but we do better than most people. Compared to the majority of people we are doing okay.
What you need to understand is that we are where we are due to hard work. I work my ass of to have the things we do. Some people don’t put in the effort and end up in a bad situation, such as your mother.
Every person has a different capacity in life. Some people will never catch up to you, and you will forever be trying to catch the rest. All you can do is give it everything you have. There is no cheating the system. There is no happy ending for those that don’t apply themselves.
When you get older and have to work you’ll understand. You get out what you put into life. Be thankful for what you have, and what you’ve earned.
More importantly be thankful for what you inherited, your family. I know they are thankful to have you in their lives. More than anything I am thankful you are in my life.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Daddy
